Are They Always This Efficient?

Tuesday January 27, 2004

Maybe I’m just conditioned to think this way. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I’ve lived in Washington for the last 2 1/2 years, and have come to expect lots of waiting and lines. Maybe it’s because I go to a university that has the dubious distinction of being the second biggest bureaucracy in Washington, and am used to red tape.

When it comes to paperwork, waiting is what I’ve come to expect.

But I’m beginning to understand that bureaucracy and headaches, bureaucracy and slowness, don’t always go hand in hand. Because the form to request an Australian education visa took me 20 minutes to fill out yesterday. And because my request was approved this morning, less than 24 hours after submitting it.

Color me impressed.
