Looking Ahead

Saturday December 31, 2005

When it comes to blogging, 2005 was not my year.

Actually, 2005 was not my year for a lot of things. It wasn’t my year for writing. It wasn’t my year for photography. It wasn’t my year for travel. It wasn’t my year for dating. It wasn’t my year for family peace and calm. For that matter, it also wasn’t my year for getting a large sum of money being dropped into my lap.

But then, it wasn’t a good year for a lot of people. It wasn’t a great year for tsunami survivors. It wasn’t an easy year for those affected by the London bombings. It was a tough year for Katrina survivors. It was a painful year for those who survived, and who continue struggling to survive, in the aftermath of the Kashmiri earthquake. It was a heartbreaking year for all those who were touched by countless other acts of nature, unintentional error, terror, war, and seemingly ceaseless violence.

In light of all this, I am nonetheless grateful—especially for the little things. For friends who spoiled me last week with clothes and jewelry and books and incredibly entertaining dvds. For people who open their lives and pour their hearts out to raise cute babies. For little girls who miss their mamas, and for their brothers—even if they all grow up way too fast. For life, for love, for a recklessly brave kid and his safe trip home, for chocolate, and for people who are willing to read my miscellaneous ramblings on the Internet.

To all, whatever their experiences during the last 365 days, my best wishes for 2006.
