At Long Last: Redesign Notes
Six months later, it’s finally happened.
Welcome to the new Sunlight and Shadows, now published with the fabulous Textpattern.
(I swear: this time around, I will update more often.)
How often? I don’t know. But more often than the once a month figure that Oso likes to cite—not without reason, I must admit.
I wish I could say that the migration was seamless, that all I had to announce were some some new content and a new layout, and that I could send you off with a cheerful, “have fun looking at the new stuff!” But, alas… there are some things you should know:
- If you’re one of those people who browses the web using Internet Explorer for the Mac, this site looks pretty ugly (you’ve probably noticed this already). For once, I can say that my coding skills are not at the root of the problem; you’re just using a really shitty piece of software.
If you have any choice in the matter whatsoever, get a different browser. There are plenty of choices, and this site renders well in all but the most obscure ones. But it’s not just this corner of the Web—I promise, your entire surfing experience will be much, much better.
- If you use Internet Explorer for Windows, this site loads almost exactly as it does in everything else; you won’t have any trouble here. But I implore you nonetheless to download Firefox—if not for yourself, then for everyone else who has to suffer from the malware and aggravation that is prolonged by IE’s widespread use.
- If you’ve linked to or bookmarked specific entries in the past, please be aware that those URLs will no longer work—nothing is where it used to be. Trackbacks to individual entries have also been disabled
- If you use RSS, there is now an Atom feed available in addition to the XML one. Unfortunately, the location of the latter has also changed, so please update your subscription.
- As you’ve probably noticed, my most recent del.icio.us links have been integrated into the new layout. If you find them interesting, you can also subscribe to a feed specifically created for just those links.
- I plan to add new non-blog content and to expand this site slowly. I figured the best way to start would be to include—at long last!—an about page for new readers. But, hopefully, longtime visitors will find it useful.
- There is also a list of links to sites I like visiting myself. You know—in case you ever get bored.
- And lastly, I’ve also added a form you can use to contact me—although emailing me directly is still fine. I’m considering adding comments, but haven’t made up my mind yet. But, either way, I do hope more readers will use this to let me know what you’re thinking—or to just say hello.
That’s that! I hope you like this redesign as much as I do. As always, please let me know if anything seems screwed up or broken. And, of course, thanks for taking the time to stop by and read. I appreciate it.
