The View While You Wait
While I was in San Diego, Oso reminded me that I once posted a link to a photo gallery on this site. I honestly couldn’t remember ever doing such a thing and thought he was pulling my leg. I knew I’d posted a couple of New Zealand photos shortly after Easter break, but I couldn’t remember anything else. But then Karen confirmed his story, and so I went digging.
I still don’t have any definitive proof that I actually linked to the complete gallery. I did find proof of a “redesign gallery before posting link to blog” item on an old to-do list, though, so I know I was at least thinking about it. I also know from checking my user history that such a redesign never took place—and that one is unlikely to happen soon.
I thought about holding off again—but what the hell. It’s a personal site, and nobody’s going to penalize me for having a mismatched designs. This isn’t a graded project for a Principles of Design class, after all.
Hence, the galleries. Included are some from a trip to Korea last year, a handful of New Zealand photos from around Easter, and some sunset photos from last week. I might add to them soon, I might not; it depends on whether I can get those 9/11 posts done sometime soon.
Blogging is an art that really only comes to me in waves. I write frequently—every day—but that doesn’t mean that I necessarily write things for public consumption every day. And lately, well, I’ve been more interested in my other projects: a sort of digital appendix for a friend, emails to college buddies, long handwritten letters to my mentor. Beyond wanting to reflect publicly about those four hijacked planes and the changes they wrought, I haven’t really had anything worth sharing. And thus, nothing that I really wanted to share.
As to the (overdue) reflections about that fateful day—really, what can I say? I’m trying, but the subject matter doesn’t make it easy. Nor is it easy to truly reflect, rather than react, to the memories and the actions taken in their name. I’ve thought, often, of just posting the many words that my fingers have typed and disregarding both craft and the inner voice demanding more. But, honestly, after three years, I have no excuse; that day deserves a hard look and the hard writing that comes with it.
I’ll probably take a while. Enjoy the photos while you wait.
