Nice to see you, Nemo!
Mommy, can I do that again? Please???
I just had one of the most amazing vacations of my life. Ever. Even with the seasickness and the delayed flight from Brisbane. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
I’ll post the long and detailed entry describing what I did and saw when I don’t have a thousand and one errands to run, but here are the highlights: swimming very, very slowly alongside a school of black and white butterfly fish. Watching a mackerel swim close enough to me to touch it. Placing a gorgeous orange-y pink and white shell back on the Reef and feeling how silky smooth parts of it could be. Swimming above my dive buddy and watching the bubbles from her exhalations travel upward, surrounding me with every breath. Blowing kisses to Nemo and Marlin and Crush. Sipping drinks on the beach while the sun set. Sitting lazily in a sea kayak, letting a gentle current guide us, while a friend and I discussed our hopes and dreams.
Very few pictures—the days we spent on the dive boat were cloudy—and none I’m willing to share. But very few regrets, and a new love for the underwater world that has settled deep into my bones.
I should’ve done this sooner.
